Students Showcase Their Model-Scale Ferraris
at Ferrari of Beverly Hills
Kranz Intermediate School students in the After School All-Stars model car making program showcased their model-scale Ferrari Enzo 430 and 599 GTB models at a special event benefiting the All-Stars program at the Ferrari of Beverly Hills showroom. The students are members of “Leo’s Chop Shop” at Kranz and under the direction of teacher, Leo Gallardo, spent two weeks perfecting their model Ferraris. Kranz’s car enthusiasts, Esteban Martinez, Anthony Ojeda, Alejandro Ruiz, Erick Serrano, Esther Alverado, Nancy Ortiz and Amanda Mendoza were set to compete against students from Bret Harte Middle School but the judges at the Ferrari dealership found all the model cars to be exceptional couldn’t pick a winner.

The event was filmed by Speed TV’s “SuperCars Exposed” show and will air in May. Additionally the students enjoyed riding in real Ferraris, as a convoy of five of the luxury cars made their way through the Hollywood Hills. “We had a blast at the event and riding in a real Ferrari was so cool!” said Erick Serrano. “They are amazing cars and it was fun building a model version of it and then getting to see them up close.” The After School All-Stars program is a non-profit organization whose programs help students in inner-city Los Angeles communities by providing academic learning support as well as enrichment in visual and performing arts, health, nutrition and physical fitness and leadership, character development and community service learning. “This was an awesome opportunity for our students to create their own Ferrari model and then share it with Ferrari aficionados,” said Dr. Kristen McGregor, Kranz principal. “They had a wonderful time at this private event and got to experience Ferrari up close and personal. The After School All-Stars program has so much to offer and we are lucky to be able to take advantage of events like this one.”
